CONTEXT

Administrative and biographical history: George Roskell (1777-1847) of Garstang, Lancashire, came to Flintshire as a shareholder in the Milwr Mine, and later became the senior partner in the Flint Smelting Works. In 1805, he married Mary Ann, only child of James Potts of Stokyn, near Holywell. His eldest son, George Potts Roskell succeeded to the Stokyn estate. The Perrin family who appear in a number of these deeds had owned the Flint Smelting Works in the 18th century.

CONTENT

Scope and content: Deeds relating to coal and lead mines and other properties owned by George Roskell, James Potts, Benjamin Perrin and others in Flint, Holywell, and elsewhere in Flintshire, 1720-1900, and to cotton mills in Lancashire, 1802, and London, 1791; and copy will of Benjamin Perrin, 1727.
