Hanes bywgraffyddol/gweinyddol: The John Maldwyn Rees papers relate to Richard Rees ('Maldwyn', 1851-1927), Machynlleth and his father Edward Walter Rees ('Gwallter Dyfi', 1881-1940). In 1892, Richard Rees was elected to represent the Machynlleth division on the Montgomeryshire County Council. He was much involved in the local life of Machynlleth, including the Maengwyn Calvinistic Methodist chapel. Edward Walter Rees was employed at the Carmarthen branch of Barclays Bank. He served as the treasurer of the campaign concerning the National Petition on the Legal Status of the Welsh Language.
