Administrative and biographical history: Ivor James (1840?-1909) was born in Monmouthshire. He was the University of Wales's first registrar and was also a historian, his specialist field of study being Wales during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Scope and content: This collection consists mainly of notes written or accumulated by Ivor James in the course of his studies of the history of Wales during the late sixteenth and the seventeenth centuries.
