Administrative and biographical history: Gwilym Jones was born in Chiswick, London, in 1947. He was educated in London before moving to Cardiff in 1960. He continued his education in Cardiff and became a registered insurance broker. In 1983 he was elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Cardiff North, a seat he held until 1997. He was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Welsh Office in 1992.
Scope and content: Papers of Gwilym Jones, M. P., including constituency files, 1983-1997; questionnaire replies, 1985-1995; and subject files, 1980-1997, relating to local, national and international issues.
System of arrangement: Arranged as follows: constituency files; constituents' questionnaire replies; and subject files. The files are then arranged alphabetically by subject, and then chronologically within each file.
Conditions governing access: Some files are closed for 50 years after the last date in each file: exemption s40, Freedom of Information Act 2000. Readers consulting modern papers in the National Library of Wales are required to sign the 'Modern papers - data protection' form.
