Hanes bywgraffyddol/gweinyddol: Messrs Longueville & Co. of Oswestry, solicitors, was established in 1720. The firm acted on behalf of a number of notable families and large estates in north Wales and Shropshire, including the Chirk Castle estate, the Hengwrt, Rug and Nannau estate, and the Wynnstay estate. In 1988 Longueville merged with local solicitors John C Gittins & Co. and Minshalls to form LG Solicitors.

Rhestri cymorth: Most of the Longueville Collection (a huge archive) remains uncatalogued. NLW, A preliminary schedule of deeds & documents deposited by Messrs Longueville & Co..., 1960, is a catalogue of part of the 1958 deposit. NLW, Longueville Gittins probates & administrations, 1993, is a list of the probate records from two tin chests in the 1988 deposit. HMC, Report on deeds & papers of the Williams Wynn family of Wynnstay, baronets, and Ormsby Gore family, barons Harlech..., 1998, is a box list to the papers of those two estates in the c.1954, c.1981 and 1988 deposits. Hard copies of these three catalogues are available at NLW and HMC. NLW, Longueville Gittins probates & administrations, 1993, is also available online. Card indexes to 'Miscellaneous probate records including death certificates' and 'Minor clients' are available at NLW.

Cloriannu, dinistrio, awdurdod i ddinistrio: Papers relating to some estates have been withdrawn by the depositors. Sixteen boxes of records relating to the Cornwallis-West Hampshire estates, have been transferred to the Hampshire Record Office, Winchester, Sept. 2000 (their 99A00, Newlands Estate, Milford-on-Sea). Otherwise, all records have been retained.

Ffynhonnell: Deposited in several groups: the first two groups by Longueville & Co., per Mr J. Iorwerth Williams, c.1942 and c.1948; an extensive group deposited by Longueville & Co., per Mary C. Hill, Shropshire County Archivist, c.1958; the Longueville (Maesmor) deeds and estate papers deposited by Longueville & Co., per Mr A. Lloyd Hughes, Meirionnydd County Archivist, c.1970; a further large deposit from Longueville & Co., c.1980; a further supplementary collection from Longueville & Co., c.1986; and a further extensive supplementary group from Longueville Gittins, 1988. NLW also bought at auction, 19 Oct. 1990, a group of papers deriving from the offices of Longueville & Co., 1830-1881, and received from Roger J. Knowles of Cannock, Staffordshire, c.1991, a group of papers originating from the offices of Longueville & Co., 1823-1925.

Further Longueville papers, concentrating on their English clients, are in Shropshire Archives: Longueville, Gittins & Co. The main collection of Wynnstay papers are in the Denbighshire Record Office: Wynnstay MSS.
