CONTEXT

Administrative and biographical history: J. Glyn Picton was senior lecturer in industrial economics at the University of Birmingham, 1947-1979. He served as an industrial arbitrator and as chairman on various bodies in the fields of health and industrial relations. Picton was also interested in researching the genealogy of the Picton family of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

Scope and content: Papers of J. Glyn Picton, 1949-1991, mainly papers concerned with his researches into General Sir Thomas Picton (1758-1815) and the Picton family, 1951-1991, including correspondence, 1949-1977; notes, 1951-1975; copies and transcripts of probate record and Pembrokeshire plea rolls; photographs and news cuttings, 1975-1984; and copies of printed sources; with also records, articles and lectures reflecting J. Glyn Picton's public service in the fields of national health and industrial relations, 1951-1977.

ALLIED MATERIALS

Related units of description: A framed print of the first monument erected to Sir Thomas Picton in Carmarthen, 1827, has been transferred to the Department of Pictures and Maps (PE 4965). A pedigree of the Pictons of Pembrokeshire was previously donated by Mr Picton in 1974 (NLW Misc Recs 273).
