Administrative and biographical history: Clwyd County Council (Cyngor Sir Clwyd) was established in 1974 following local government reorganisation. The county of Clwyd consisted of most of the old County of Denbighshire, all of the old County of Flintshire, and the Edeirnion district of the old County of Merionydd. The county of Clwyd ceased to exist on 31 March 1996, being replaced by four unitary authorities, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham County Borough and Conwy County Borough. The elected councillors oversaw the activities of the staff.
