Hanes bywgraffyddol/gweinyddol: Members of the Independent church held their initial meetings in a cottage in Maesycwmmer, Bedwas, Monmouthshire (now Caerphilly), in c. 1827 , and erected their first chapel there in 1829 on land leased from the Gelli-deg estate. This was enlarged in 1855 and opened in 1856. A new chapel was opened in 1876 to accommodate increased numbers. Tabor Welsh Congregational Church became part of the United Reformed Church in 1971 and of the Rhymney Valley pastorate with Bethany, in Ystrad Mynach, and Van Road, in Caerphilly, in 1996. The gradual decline of the congregation during the 1980s and 1990s and the burden of maintaining the church building culminated in a decision by church members to close the church in January 2003.
