The Council covered the area of the parishes of Llantrisant and Llantwit Fardre, and was one of the largest authorities of its kind in Britain, covering 18,433 acres. Llantrisant and Llantwit Fardre Rural District Council ceased to exist in 1974, under the terms of the Local Government Act 1972, and its responsibilities were transferred to the newly-established Taff Ely Borough Council (1974-1996), subsequently to Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council.
