Hanes bywgraffyddol/gweinyddol: The Rhymney Ironworks were bought by Forman & Co from the Hall family in 1825. There had been ironworks on the site since 1800. Forman & Co had built the Bute Ironworks on the opposite bank of the River Rhymney in 1824 and from 1825, operated both works as one concern. The title of the company changed to Rhymney Iron Company Limited in 1874. At first, the main product of the Rhymney Ironworks was wrought iron rails. They started producing steel rails in 1876, and the following year it was estimated they would be able to manufacture five hundred tons of steel rails each week. At this time the company was recorded as owning eight hundred houses, shops and a brewery. The works ceased making wrought iron in 1884. In 1891 they also abandoned steel production when this ceased to be a profitable venture. The furnaces and plant were dismantled in the same year but the company continued to exist as a coal mining enterprise.
