Administrative and biographical history: Cardiff Howell's School, Llandaff was founded in 1860 by Thomas Howell (d.1540) who was one of the members of the Drapers Company of the City of London. The school was erected in 1859 and enlarged in 1899 to accomodate 95 boarders, 30 of whom were Howell's scholars, and 245 day scholars.
