CONTEXT

Administrative and biographical history: The Corbetts were a leading Glamorganshire family. John Stuart Corbett (b.1816) was a J.P. and the son of the Venerable Archdeacon Stuart Corbett of York. The family residence was Cogan Pill, near Cardiff, a mansion built by the Herbert family c1550. In 1793 Cogan Pill was purchased by the Earl of Bute. Their family boasts a large and comprehensive collection of photographs and postcards from the late 19th century onwards, which include views of the local areas, other areas and landmarks of Wales and views from counties in England and Scotland.
