Parking
There is visitor parking on the east (i.e. the marina) side of the building. There is also a separate parking area here for disabled visitors, the parking on the upper level providing a level access around the building to the front entrance.
By Bus/Train
The railway station is about 15-20 minutes' walk away. The bus station is about 5-10 minutes' walk away. Both the have taxi ranks if you do not wish to walk to County Hall, and there are also buses from the railway station to the city centre. The Metro bus service runs every 15 minutes from the railway and bus stations to the Civic Centre.
West Glamorgan Archives holds documents, maps, photographs, film and sound recordings relating to all aspects of the history of the West Glamorgan area. It holds, amongst other things, records of local authorities, landed estates, churches, chapels, schools, societies and businesses.

There are designated parking spaces for blue badge holders to the Civic Centre. All public areas of the Civic Centre are fully accessible to wheelchairs. Magnifying glasses and a video magnifier are available to borrow from the enquiry desks. Disabled toilets are available at the Civic Centre. Information leaflets are available in both standard and large print formats. All enquiry desks and counters have lowered sections and loop systems are available.
Food: There is a café in the foyer of the Civic Centre which sells a range of hot and cold drinks and light refreshments.
Toilets: There are toilet facilities at the Centre (including baby changing and disabled toilets).
Shop: There is a shop at the centre which sells a range of goods including books on local and family history, greetings and Christmas cards and maps and engravings.
There is no need to make an appointment to visit the archives. It is possible to pre-book a computer or microform reader.
A Reader's Ticket is required for access to original material. If you do not have a ticket then you will need to bring proof of identity which includes your address and signature (e.g. driving licence). Readers must sign the search room register giving their name, address and the subject of their research. Signing the register constitutes an agreement to abide by the West Glamorgan Archives Rules and Regulations.
Lockers are provided. No coins are required.
Staff can provide photocopies, within copyright guidelines and providing this does not damage the document. West Glamorgan Archive Service also offers a high quality scanning and digitisation service. Fees apply.
Cameras can be used to photograph documents, within the same guidelines.
Personal laptops are allowed, there are a number of tables which have power supply sockets. The search room has wi-fi.
A research service is available for those unable to visit the office. Charge is £25 per hour (£12.50 for half hour short searches). Research request should be on the official order form with a cheque or postal order made payable to Swansea City Council.
There is no lower age limit for use of the facilities.
