Archival collections are held at three of the University's sites: the Old College houses the Institutional Archive, and the Thomas Parry Library on the Llanbadarn campus and the Hugh Owen Library on the main Penglais campus house all other collections.
Parking
Visitor parking is available on the Llanbadarn and Penglais campuses. Limited on-street parking and pay-and-display car parks are available in the town, close to the Old College.
By Bus/Train
There is a regular train service from London, Euston, journey time 5 hours. The main inter-city services offer connections to Aberystwyth from Wolverhampton or Birmingham New Street. Inter-city journeys by bus terminate at the railway station. A frequent local bus service operates from the station to both campuses - look for the Waun Circular. The Old College is within 5-10 minutes walk of the station.
Aberystwyth University holds a large and diverse range of archival material, most of which has been either collected by the University to support its research and teaching or bequeathed to the University. A large archive also exists of records created by the University, including early material relating to its establishment in 1872.

It is essential to book a place in advance, and, where possible, to pre-order any archival material. It is usually advisable to make an appointment a week in advance to ensure that requests can be accommodated, and in order for us to confirm which site you will need to visit.
In order to use the archives, proof of identification is required. Staff and students of the University should bring with them their valid IS Library card and external readers should bring ID showing their photograph and address (e.g. Driving licence). On each visit all readers will be required to read the Rules for Readers and sign a Reader's Statement.
The archive service does not have locker facilities.
Staff can provide photocopies, within copyright guidelines and providing this does not damage the document. Cameras can be used to photograph documents, within the same guidelines. Readers must complete a copyright declaration form before any copies are made. The use of hand-held scanners is not permitted. The University also offers a high quality scanning and digitisation and photography service. Fees apply.
Laptops are permitted, provided they do not cause a disturbance to other readers.
The archive does not offer a research service. The University is unable to undertake any extensive research involving the archives but are happy to provide assistance to enable researchers to make effective use of the collections.
Under-18s may be permitted to consult archival collections at the discretion of archive staff.
