The archives service is situated towards the back of the town, on a site which was formerly a school. There are currently no signs around Carmarthen directing visitors to the archives. However, follow signs for the Registry Office, which is on the same site. Alternatively ask for the old Grammar school. When approaching the site the service is located on the left-hand side underneath the arches.
Parking
Free car-parking is available at the site. A free token is issued from the archives service to exit the car-park.
By Bus/Train
The railway station is about 15 minutes walk away. There is a taxi rank outside the station if you do not wish to walk. Alternatively the footbridge from the railway station leads to the bus station. Buses drop off near to St Peter's Church which is about five minutes walk to the archives through the town car-park.
Carmarthenshire Archive Service holds documents, maps and photographs relating to the history of Carmarthenshire. Its main holdings include the records of Quarter Sessions, local authorities, parish records, landed estates, education and businesses.

Friday 9.30am - 4.30pm
(No original documents are produced between 12.00 - 2.00pm)
The archive is available from 5.00 - 7.00pm on Tuesdays by appointment booked by the Friday before.
There are disabled spaces in the car-park. Entrance to the archives is fully accessible to wheelchairs. Magnifying glasses are available. Public access PCs are large-screen. Induction loop system is available.
Food: There are no facilities for consuming food at the archives.
Toilets: Are available at the archives, and include disabled access.
Shop: There is no shop at the archives.
We prefer you to telephone or email us in advance of your visit since places are limited. If you require to use either microform machines or PCs then you need to make an appointment in order for us to reserve a place for you.
Visitors are required to register for the Archives Wales reader's ticket if they have not already done so.
Free lockers are available to store personal belongings.
Cameras are not allowed in the search rooms. All copying, photographic or photocopying, is undertaken by staff. Fees apply for this service.
Personal laptops are allowed, though there are limited places. Wi-fi is available.
Carmarthenshire Archive Service offers a research service for which there is a £25 per hour charge. Anyone wishing to use this service is advised to contact the Archives in advance with details of the enquiry to obtain an estimate of the cost.
There is no lower age limit for the use of the archives, though children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.
