Caernarfon Record Office is situated on Victoria Dock in Caernarfon. The Record Office is signposted from the A487.
Parking
There is no parking on site but there are plenty of pay and display car parks situated near to the Record Office.
By Bus/Train
The bus station is about 10 minutes walk away. The nearest train station is in Bangor and a good bus service connects the station to Caernarfon.
Caernarfon Record Office holds material relating to the county of old county of Caernarfon, including local government archives; public and official archives (courts of law, hospitals etc); private archives including those of families, estates, industry and trade; and archives of ecclesiastical parishes of the diocese of Bangor.
Tuesday - Friday 9.30am - 5pm
(Closed 12.30-1.30 for lunch)
Wednesdays have extended opening hours until 7pm
The building is accessible to wheelchair users and a disabled toilet is available.
Food: There is no facility for buying refreshments on site but there are plenty of cafes in the town, a short walk away.
Toilets: Toilets are provided including a disabled toilet.
Shop: Publications and postcards can be purchased at the reception desk.
There is no need to make an appointment to visit the Record Office.
A Reader's Ticket (CARN - County Archive Research Network) is required for access to original material. If you do not have a ticket then you will need to bring proof of identity which includes your address and signature (eg driving licence).
Lockers are provided. No coins are required.
Use of photographic equipment and scanners is not allowed. Photocopies, photographic copies and recordings can be made by the office for a charge.
The use of laptops is permitted.
The office offers a research service at £12 per half hour.
Children and young people are welcome. An education room is available for the use of children and young people. Resource packs are available for the use of children and young people at the Record Office.
